Biobased carbon

Carbon contained in or stemming from biomass. A material or product made of fossil and renewable resources contain fossil and biobased carbon. The biobased carbon content is measured via the 14C method (radio carbon dating method) that adheres to the technical specifications as described in Environmental Communication Guide, European Bioplastics, Berlin, Germany, 2012, CEN/TS 16137, Plastics – Determination of bio-based carbon content, 2011, ASTM D6866, Standard Test Methods for Determining the Biobased Content of Solid, Liquid, and Gaseous Samples Using Radiocarbon Analysis, SPI: Understanding Biobased Carbon Content, 2012
